Sports, AI and Storytelling Workshop
In a week and a half, we're hosting a free 60-minute workshop entitled Introduction to Data Storytelling for Sports. We're on a waitlist now, but registration is still open.
Many of you are new to this community, so we thought it might be helpful to see where like-minded creators, analysts and journalists are at in their journey. So, we took a snapshot of the people who are registering and wanted to share that here through 1) experience level, 2) roles and 3) goals for the workshop.
What is Your Experience Level?
We'd expect this as the workshop is introductory, but most of the registrants are new or relatively new to the Sports, AI and Storytelling space. This is great to see because it means we can help you grow your skills and there's a lot of upside to acquiring and applying the knowledge to your own goals.

What is Your Role?
It's super helpful for us to understand who we're talking to – whether it's through our newsletters, data stories, courses, and the like – so this is really good to see. You're a diverse group of creative sports enthusiasts looking to find ways to take data and stats and translate it into stories.

Interestingly, there are common elements across these roles, for example, data sourcing, analysis, modeling, etc. – which means transferable skills if you want to move from journalist to content creator. But, it also means that you might have specific skills to your role, for example, a content creator may invest more in how to include motion graphics in their Instagram reels.
Our Sports, AI and Storytelling framework fortunately covers all of these skills.
What are Your Goals?
Registrants listed many different goals, but we summarized your top-most goals for the workshop into the following buckets. Even within this summarized view, there's a lot here. That said, we'll structure the workshop around these top-level goals and we'll create some content and courseware here on Data Punk Media that also addresses these areas.
