We've made some changes to the Data Punk Media site. Not just visual tweaks, but more structural changes to how the site is organized, what pages exist, and how you navigate through them – basically simplifying the site map and navigation.
We want to be transparent about what changed, why we made those decisions, and how it affects you.
The Problem We're Solving
When we started Data Punk Media, we had one target audience: people who love sports and want to learn how to tell stories with data. That's still core to what we do, and we're going to more here.
But over the last year, something interesting happened. A second audience started finding us: athletes. Not necessarily people who want to analyze sports, but people who are the sport. Athletes who are thinking seriously about their careers, their brand, how to tell their story, and what happens after the game ends.
That's a meaningfully different person with different needs. And our old site wasn't built for two audiences; it was built for one. A visitor arriving for the first time had no clear way to know whether this place was for them, or what to do next if it was.
So we fixed that.
What Changed?
Start Here is the new front door for Data Punk Media, which consolidates the old Get Started and Welcome page into a much simpler place to start.
You now have two clear paths:
Each path has its own orientation, its own resources, and its own next steps. You no longer have to figure out where to go. You just pick your path and we take it from there.
Learning is Now One Page
We had content scattered across three places: the Resources Hub, the Living Course page, and the Get Started page. That made it hard to find everything in one place, and we heard that feedback from members.
The new Learning page brings it all together (Free Courses, Paid Courses, Projects, and Resources) in one organized hub. Everything is still free to access with a membership, and nothing has been removed. It's just easier to find now.
Data Stories is Now Just Stories
The old Sports Storytelling page was trying to do too many things at once: showcase stories, link to project resources, and function as a learning hub. That's what the Learning page is for now.
Data Stories is now home to Within the Numbers, our regular series finding the story in the stats across hockey, soccer, F1, and more. We're ten episodes in and growing. If you haven't read the F1 Drive Score series or our 2026 World Cup breakdown, those are worth catching up on.
You, Inc. has a Clearer Structure
The You, Inc. page (which features our framework for athletes who want to build their career with intention) now has cleaner cards for the self-assessment, the e-book, and the custom strategy engagement. The six dimensions are laid out visually, and the Joseph Richardson series has its own card with episode links as we continue building it out.
The Navigation is Cleaner
We trimmed the nav from eight items down to six:
- Start Here - Point of entry for the site
- Data Stories - Sample data stories
- Learning - Free/paid courses and resources
- You, Inc. - New athlete development framework
- What We Offer - Listing of Data Punk Media offers
- Sign in / Sign up - Sign in or sign up as a member
The Living Course and Resources Hub are no longer separate nav items; they live inside Learning, where they belong. The Welcome page is still available at its URL for anyone who bookmarked it, but it no longer needs to be in the nav.
What hasn't Changed
The content. Every lesson, every module, every story project, every resource is still here and still free with a membership. We haven't moved anything behind a paywall. We haven't removed anything that was working.
The community. We're almost at 2,000 members across 30 countries and growing at a really healthy pace. The monthly community calls on Luma are still running. The regular Within the Numbers series is still publishing. And you'll see more content and courseware published in the coming weeks and months.
The mission. We teach people how to turn data into stories. That hasn't changed. We've just built a cleaner path to get there, and you'll see an increasing number of content and courseware to help you all level up.
Any Feedback, Don't be Shy
